Game 1 Chill @ Snowbirds

Matthew Rossignol and Max Whieldon collaborated on at four-hit shutout as the Chill blanked the Snowbirds, 8-0, in the opener of Saturday’s California Winter League doubleheader at Palm Springs Stadium.  The game marked the second consecutive whitewash victory for the Chill, lifting their record to 4-1.  Rossignol earned the win with five innings of solid work, and Wheildon finished with two perfect frames.  The tandem combined to retire 15 of the last 16 Snowbird hitters.

The game was scoreless into the fifth, when Lyle Allen’s RBI single broke the deadlock.  Tommy Williams’ two-run triple highlighted a three-run 6th, and four straight run-scoring singles closed out the scoring in the 7th.  The loss balanced the Snowbirds’ record at 2-2.

Game 2 A’s @ Power

In the second game, the Power rebounded from a shutout loss the previous day with an 11-2 pounding of the A’s.  The Power were led on offense by leftfielder Patrick Howe, whose bases-loaded single drove in a pair of third inning runs against A’s starter and loser Charles Dragonetti.  Designated hitter Jeremy Miller also chipped in by reaching base five times with a single, double, and a trio of walks.  Miller also scored twice and stole a base.

Three Power pitchers combined to limit the A’s to three hits, with reliever Timothy Combs tossing two innings to gain the win.  The triumph lifted the Power record to 4-1, while the A’s slipped to 1-3-1.
