Justin Vasquez, a 2013 CWL alum, is a starting outfielder on the Frontier Greys, a member of the prominent independent Frontier League. Vasquez is an everyday player who has seized his opportunity and made the most of it, as he’s second on the team with 17 RBI’s. We had a chance to sit down and talk with Vasquez about his experience in the Frontier League as well as his time at the CWL.

How has your experience in the Frontier League been?

“It’s been one of the best experiences of my life so far.”

What was your background coming into the CWL?

“It was my first year after college ball. Before I played at Belmont Abbey College. I played there for five years.”

What was your experience like at the CWL?

“The CWL was definitely worth it. You guys gave us everything we needed and it was a great experience. I’ve been to a lot of baseball tryouts, and there’s 500 kids there and it’s hard to get looked at. But it was nice to get to play in front of actual managers of baseball teams.”

Do you think the CWL was a good move for your career?

“Yes. I wouldn’t be where I’m at if it wasn’t for the CWL. It was everything I think a player needs to get looked at and to possibly move to the next step of their career.”

Would you recommend the CWL to other players in your situation?

“Yeah, I would definitely recommend it. I’ve recommended it to a few of my friends already.”

Justin was certainly one of the standout players here at the 2013 CWL and he was rewarded with a contract in the Frontier League. He is a perfect example of what can happen for a guy that shows up and works hard at the CWL.
