CWL History

2012: In the third installment of the CWL, 47 participants signed contracts with affiliated or independent teams, including Miles Walding and Marcus Reyna who signed with Major League clubs.

2011: In the league’s second season, 66 different players received pro or college offers, an  outstanding 63% of the league. In June, league President Andrew Starke announced that the league would expand to eight teams in the 2012 season. See the complete list of 2011 offers.

2010: In the inaugural year for the California Winter League, the Coachella Valley Snowbirds, Canada A’s, and Palm Desert Coyotes joined the Palm Springs Chill, as all four teams played their games at Palm Springs Stadium and received top-notch instruction from former professionals such as Brian Giles, Darrell Evans, Greg Cadaret, and Tim Blackwell.

2009: In 2009, the Palm Springs Chill–still playing in the Arizona Winter League–went 12-8 as they went on to win their semi-final playoff game and advance to the League Championship under manager Darrell Evans. In September 2009, President Andrew Starke announced the inception of the California Winter League which debuted in the winter of 2010.

2008: In 2008, the Palm Springs Chill debuted in the Arizona Winter League under manager Garry Templeton, winning the regular season championship outright in 2008. They entered the playoff as the number one seed, but fell in the semi-final championship game.
